Garden Bloggers Bloom Day February 2010
Hard to believe that another Garden Bloggers Bloom Day has arrived (thanks May Dreams Gardens!). Today was a difficult day to explore the garden – most of it is covered with about 6 inches of snow. Still, I trekked through the snow, brushed aside drifts from the emerging crocuses, and inspected early spring blooming shrubs. No luck – not a bloom in sight. Then I turned to the houseplants where so many fellow gardeners manage to find something in bloom during the winter. But no luck there either – might have something to do with my nickname as the Great Houseplant Killer. So, instead of showcasing living blossoms, I decided to share a few pictures of flowers that have either passed their prime or are yet to emerge. It’s surprising just how beautiful the winter garden can be!

Even without current flowers you’ve manage to find interesting things. I can stare at buds and imagine flowers for hours–like gardeners must somehow be able to see the future…
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I am glad I am not the only one having trouble finding something to post for GBBD.
I’m very impressed with your intrepid search for blooms in the snow! The astillbe blossoms are one of those winter silhouettes that sustain us until spring truly arrives. Thanks for visiting my site, Garden Junkie!
Hail to the winter garden! (I better say this because it’s no 6 inches of snow in my garden – try 30). I love the rhodi – what a show you’ll have later this spring. Thanks for sharing your photos and for visiting my site – nice to meet another Great Houseplant Killer (I thought I had rightly earned that title, but I’ll let you keep it if you want it!) Kelly
Astilbe and snow are pretty but I do hope you get rid of the snow and get some springtime blooms soon. We’re all chomping at the bit to get there, I know!
Love the rhodie!
It won’t be long before you’re sharing pictures of your rhodie in bloom. I think even the promise of a flower to come counts!
Thanks all, for visiting. I’m hoping the rhodie puts on quite a show this year – last year the rain turned the blossoms brown within only a day or two. So sorry, Kelly, to hear about yoru 30″ of snow – ugh. May it melt quickly! Unlike those of you in the sun and warmth (James!), most of us will have to wait until next month to see things blooming in the garden. Now all we need is for it to stop snowing…
