How to Ruin an Azalea in One Easy Step

May 7, 2010

Need I say more??

OK, I can’t help myself – seeing shrubs like this just gets me riled up. What are people thinking??

First of all, turning flowering shrubs into giant pom-poms is just plain wrong. Not only does it look silly, it completely destroys the natural form of the plant and practically eliminates one of the main reasons for growing them – the flowers.

Then there’s where people put plants.  Why doesn’t it occur to people that their lovely little shrub from the local big box store will one day be, well, a wee bit bigger? And, of course, as we all know, the only way to deal with that is to hack off part of the shrub…

I cringe every time I go by this plant on what would otherwise be an enjoyable run through the neighborhood.

I can’t believe that this sort of behaviour has not annoyed me enough to post on my own blog – I am now all the more aware -

That is so funny. I guess there really is no accounting for some people’s taste.

Makes you wonder what they were thinking – assuming, of course, that they were thinking at all…

Then there is the exquisite pruning by the Power Companies that cleave trees in two.

Thanks for your rant. I find that kind of pruning/planting inexcusable. My guess is no thinking whatsoever went into that. Ugh. Plants don’t naturally grown in ball or box shape generally.

It’s pretty amazing that someone would be willing to have that in front of their house. I know I wouldn’t!
